Memos to poems to essays: each distinctive piece of writing serves a purpose.

Being a writing major, I have written at least one of every style of text there is.

Journalism

One of my internships as a college student was with my hometown newspaper, Warren, Ohio’s The Tribune Chronicle. In my internship, I serviced as a correspondent, covering the Trumbull County Fair. I was responsible for producing 8 articles, one per day for the 8 days the fair ran. The following button opens up to a document where I’ve compiled all of my stories.

While in college, I wrote for The Chimes, Capital University’s student newspaper. The Chimes is a weekly publication with both print and online editions. From December 2017 to December 2020, I served as both a reporter and the Web Editor. Here are a collection of my news stories from September 2017 to December 2020.

Professional Writing & Newsletters

As Marketing and Salon Manager at Bespoke Salon Studio, part of my role is writing, editing, and posting monthly newsletters for our clients. These newsletters cover a wide variety of topics, like stylist pricing changes, new product and service alerts, product deep dives, and how-to resources.

Below is my Senior Thesis, the culmination of my learning at Capital University. For my thesis, I focused on the Marxist literary theory as it intersects with satire, news, and modern politics. My thesis was accepted at the 2021 National Conference on Undergraduate Research.

One of the other college papers I am proud of is my final paper for a Black Literature class I took. For this paper, I looked at how literary censorship disproportionately affects Black authors, despite the defense for those authors is not as popular. This essay includes analysis of the banning of Their Eyes Were Watching God, Invisible Man, The Autobiography of Malcolm X, and I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings.

Creative Writing

Of my creative works, there are a few that I take great pride in, they top my list of gratifying self expressions. In 2019, I was published in Capital University’s Literary Magazine, ReCap. My poem titled “Hear Us Howl” is a copy change poem, where a poem is taken and 50-90% of it is replaced with your own writing to create a new poem rooted in a classic. I took the poem “Howl, Part 3” by Allen Ginsberg and copy changed it into a poem about police violence. The 2019 ReCap is free for digital download and can be found below, “Hear Us Howl” is on page 33!
